The Danish/Scanian medieval boyband Pøbel proudly presents their long-awaited follow-up to the debut album Lux Luminum (2017). The new release is titled “In Amicis” – Latin for among friends – reflecting the spirit of friendship and collaboration that has shaped the album.
As with their previous release, the album features a selection of handpicked authentic melodies and songs from medieval and Renaissance Europe: a rich blend of Marian hymns, traditional ballads, drinking songs, and dance melodies – interpreted, translated, and arranged by the ensemble themselves.
Pøbel performs captivating and danceable medieval music on instruments such as hurdy-gurdy, medieval fiddles (vielle), bagpipes, lute, shawm, and drums. With authentic instruments, melodies, and costumes, the band recreates the spirit of a late 15th-century “dance band” – while remaining one of the most active and ambitious medieval groups in Scandinavia today.
The name Pøbel is an old Scandinavian word for “mob” or “crowd,” reflecting the band’s approach: “music of the people” – the sounds one might have heard across medieval Europe.
